On Sunday morning, 26 October, the two final scheduled passenger flights with McDonnell Douglas MD-11 widebodies are expected to arrive at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The flights are performed by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the only airline still operating the MD-11 in the passenger transport role.
The first flight is scheduled for arrival at 5.45 a.m. local time, coming from Toronto. The second flight, from Montreal, the very last scheduled MD-11 passenger flight, should touch the concrete of one of Schiphol's runways around 6.35 hr.
The two Canadian cities are the only destinations still served by KLM with MD-11s. From tomorrow the KLM-flights to Montreal will be performed with Airbus A330s and the service to Toronto with Boeing 747-400s.
The MD-11 performing the last flight from Montreal, PH-KCE (see photo), will park close to Schiphol's roof terrace, which will be specially opened very early for the public. KLM has flown a total of ten MD-11's. The first aircraft was delivered in December 1993.
On 11 November KLM will make three 'goodbye-flights' with the MD-11 from Schiphol. After that day, the remaining MD-11s in airline service, still around 150 aircraft worldwide, will only fly cargo.
