Air Europa orders Boeing 787-9

Air Europa has placed an order for 14 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The order was already booked in December 2014 and was previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website.

Air New Zealand orders extra 787s

Air New Zealand has ordered two additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The order, booked in 2014, comes six months after Air New Zealand celebrated the first 787-9 delivery in July.

The order will increase the airline's fleet to a total of 12 787-9s, which will operate alongside 15 777-200ERs (Extended Range) and 777-300ERs. Air New Zealand is the launch customer of the 787-9 and currently operates three of the aircraft in its fleet.

To date, 58 customers around the world have ordered 1,071 787s.

Etihad receives first Boeing 787-9

Boeing has delivered Etihad Airways' first 787-9 Dreamliner sporting the airline's new "Facets of Abu Dhabi" livery which was revealed earlier this year.

The airplane is the first of the 71 Dreamliners that the national airline of the United Arab Emirates has on order which includes 41 787-9s and 30 787-10s. Etihad Airways will also be the first airline in the Middle East to operate the 787-9.

The aircraft will be first used on routes to cities such as Dusseldorf, Washington D.C., Mumbai, Brisbane and Moscow.

The colours are reminiscent of the desert landscape, inspired by the culture, Islamic design and architecture motifs of the United Arab Emirates.

Virgin Atlantic receives first Boeing 787

Virgin Atlantic Airways has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The airline is the European launch customer for the stretched version of the 787. Virgin Atlantic's first 787-9 touched down at London's Gatwick Airport today following a more than 7,400 km (4,000 nm) nonstop flight from Paine Field in Everett, Washington.

Boeing delivers 787-9 to United

United Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and now may name itself "the first airline in North America to fly both the 787-8 and 787-9."

Earlier this year, United announced it will fly the airplane on what will become the longest 787 route: nonstop service between Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia.

United now operates 11 787 Dreamliners with an additional 54 on order, including the 787-10.

ANA buys 40 Boeing widebodies

Boeing has sold 40 widebody airliners to All Nippon Airways: 20 777-9Xs, 14 787-9 Dreamliners and six 777-300ERs (Extended Range). The order was originally announced as a commitment in March.

ANA, the launch customer of the 787, becomes the world's largest customer for the Dreamliner with a total of 80 airplanes ordered. The airline currently operates 29 787s with 51 more to deliver, including 43 787-9s.

ANA receives its first Boeing 787-9

Boeing delivered on July 29 the first 787-9 Dreamliner to ANA All Nippon Airways, which is now the first airline to have both Dreamliner-versions in its fleet. ANA has now 29 787s, more than any other operator in the world.

ANA has 29 more 787-9s on order and commitments for a further 14. Boeing has sold more than 1,000 787s and there are more than 160 currently in operation.

Which airline is to become the first Boeing 787-9 operator? ANA All Nippon Airlines or Air New Zealand? Air New Zealand was the first airline to receive a Boeing 787-9, the stretched version of the Dreamliner. However, ANA All Nippon Airways said it will be the first operator of the type, as it was with the 787-8.

Air New Zealand received its first 787-9 on July 9 and All Nippon is about to receive its first aircraft on July 27. ANZ published that it would start scheduled commercial flights between Auckland and Perth from October 15. "That means that we are the first operator of the new aircraft," concluded All Nippon. "Because we will operate a special commemorative flight on August 4, with Japanese and American elementary school children living in Japan." The aircraft will depart from Tokyo Haneda Airport and fly over Mount Fuji. On the new aircraft the Tomodachi-logo will be displayed to support the initiative to strengthen Japanese-US ties.

"But that is not a revenue or commercial flight," protests Air New Zealand. And that ANZ will start scheduled commercial flights between Auckland and Perth on October 15 doesn't mean that the aircraft will stand idle on the tarmac of Auckland Airport until October. Air New Zealand will start flying the 787-9 from August 9 between Auckland and Sydney on a surprise basis for its passengers on flights normally operated by other types of aircraft.

ANA will initially deploy the 787-9 on domestic routes from early October, but doesn't mention the day these flights will begin. What's sure is that the ANA 787-9s will have a high-density interior counting 395 seats. International ANA flights will start in April 2015.

Avolon orders six Boeing 787s

Aircraft lease company Avolon, headquartered in Ireland, has ordered six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners at Farnborough. The commitment marks Avolon's first order for the 787. Avolon provides aircraft leasing and lease management services. Avolon has an owned, managed and committed fleet of 207 aircraft serving 48 customers in 27 countries. Avolon also ordered five additional 737 MAX 9 narrowbodies.
