Air Europa orders Boeing 787-9

Air Europa has placed an order for 14 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The order was already booked in December 2014 and was previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website.

Air New Zealand orders extra 787s

Air New Zealand has ordered two additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The order, booked in 2014, comes six months after Air New Zealand celebrated the first 787-9 delivery in July.

The order will increase the airline's fleet to a total of 12 787-9s, which will operate alongside 15 777-200ERs (Extended Range) and 777-300ERs. Air New Zealand is the launch customer of the 787-9 and currently operates three of the aircraft in its fleet.

To date, 58 customers around the world have ordered 1,071 787s.

Etihad receives first Boeing 787-9

Boeing has delivered Etihad Airways' first 787-9 Dreamliner sporting the airline's new "Facets of Abu Dhabi" livery which was revealed earlier this year.

The airplane is the first of the 71 Dreamliners that the national airline of the United Arab Emirates has on order which includes 41 787-9s and 30 787-10s. Etihad Airways will also be the first airline in the Middle East to operate the 787-9.

The aircraft will be first used on routes to cities such as Dusseldorf, Washington D.C., Mumbai, Brisbane and Moscow.

The colours are reminiscent of the desert landscape, inspired by the culture, Islamic design and architecture motifs of the United Arab Emirates.

Azerbaijan receives first Boeing 787

Azerbaijan Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner today. The national airline of Azerbaijan becomes the first airline in the Commonwealth of Independent States to operate the 787.

FirstBoing 787 for Avianca

Colombian airline Avianca has taken delivery of its first 787 Dreamliner, which it intends to fly on routes to Europe, North America and across South America.

Avianca's Boeing 787-8 will carry 28 passengers in business class and 222 in economy class. The airline has 15 aircraft on order.

To date, 58 customers have ordered 1,055 787s, making the Dreamliner the fastest-selling twin-aisle airplane in Boeing history.

Boeing starts ecoDemonstrator 787 tests

The ecoDemonstrator Boeing 787 has begun flights to test more than 25 new technologies aimed at improving aviation's environmental performance through every phase of flight. The Boeing ecoDemonstrator Program is intended to accelerate the testing, refinement and use of new technologies and methods that can improve efficiency and reduce noise. This new round of testing, using 787 Dreamliner ZA004, will evaluate software and connectivity technologies related to operational efficiency; remote sensors to reduce wiring; aerodynamic and flight control improvements for greater fuel efficiency, and icephobic wing coatings to reduce ice accumulation.

787 Dreamliner to Museum of Flight

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is already ripe for the museum. The US aircraft manufacturer donates the third Dreamliner built to the Museum of Flight, located at nearby Boeing Field in Seattle, on Saturday 8 November.

The Museum organises a complete "Dreamliner Day" on Saturday around its newest treasure. The aircraft will be placed in the museum's Air Park, where it joins aircraft types like Concorde, Constellation, Boeing 747, Boeing 727, Boeing 737, an ex-presidential Boeing 707 and a Lockheed Super Constellation.

787s for American and Scoot take shape

More and more airlines start flying with Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Airlines which are going to fly the newest Boeing airliner soon, are American Airlines and Scoot from Singapore, as can be concluded from video's and pictures on Twitter.

Virgin Atlantic receives first Boeing 787

Virgin Atlantic Airways has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The airline is the European launch customer for the stretched version of the 787. Virgin Atlantic's first 787-9 touched down at London's Gatwick Airport today following a more than 7,400 km (4,000 nm) nonstop flight from Paine Field in Everett, Washington.

Etihad shows new livery on Boeing 787

Etihad Airways has unveiled its new 'Facets of Abu Dhabi' livery on the airline's first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The aircraft was rolled out of the Boeing paint shop in Everett today. The 787 will play a key role in Etihad Airways' fleet and network expansion plans.

Air Berlin cancels Boeing 787 order

Air Berlin names it "fleet harmonization", but it is simply the cancellation of an order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. First delivery of an Air Berlin 787 was planned for late 2015. The German airline has also cancelled orders for 18 Boeing 737 narrowbodies.

Boeings "Broken Dreams" on Al Jazeera

Tonight Al Jazeera television network starts broadcasting a documentary about problems with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, named 'Broken Dreams'. Al Jazeera reports extensively about the well-known lithum-ion battery-problems with the Boeing 787, for which the aircraft was grounded for a three month period. But it also gives attention to other problems.

Transaero: no 787s but more 747s

The Russian carrier Transaero Airlines has converted an outstanding order for four Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners into four Boeing 747-8I aircraft. Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2015. The airline already had four 747-8s on order.

Qatar Airways with Boeing 787 to Vienna

Today, 1 September, Qatar Airways has introduced the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Doha-Vienna route. The route was previously flown with much smaller Airbus A320 aircraft. Qatar Airways is the first airline with scheduled 787 flights to Vienna.

The 787 flies to Vienna Schechat Airport every day. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays the flights depart from Doha at 08:35 hrs and arrive in Vienna at 13:25 hrs. Departure from Vienna is at 16:15 hrs and arrival in Doha at 22:35 hrs.

On Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays the 787s depart Doha at 01:50 hrs and arrive in Vienna at 06:40 hrs. Departure time at Vienna is 11:45 hrs, with arrival in Doha at 18:05 hrs.

787 makes Xiamen Airlines widebody operator

Chinese airline Xiamen Airlines received its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner on 29 August. The aircraft is the first widebody airliner in the airline's fleet. Xiamen Airlines becomes the third Chinese airline to operate the 787. It will use the Dreamliner for international expansion. The airline will fly the 787 on long-haul routes from its Fujian province base to Europe, North America and Australia.

First Boeing 787 for Royal Jordanian

Boeing delivered the first 787 Dreamliner in the colours of Royal Jordanian Airlines on 27 August. Royal Jordanian acquired the airplane through leasing company AerCap and it is the second airline in the Middle East to operate the 787 after Qatar Airways.

New airline colours on Dreamliners

Production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner seems to make good progress. That means that 787s with the tails of a growing number of airlines are rolling out of the factory. Photographs of them can be found on the internet. Examples are Virgin Atlantic, Avianca and Xiamen Airlines.

ANA buys 40 Boeing widebodies

Boeing has sold 40 widebody airliners to All Nippon Airways: 20 777-9Xs, 14 787-9 Dreamliners and six 777-300ERs (Extended Range). The order was originally announced as a commitment in March.

ANA, the launch customer of the 787, becomes the world's largest customer for the Dreamliner with a total of 80 airplanes ordered. The airline currently operates 29 787s with 51 more to deliver, including 43 787-9s.

787-10 to be built in South Carolina only

Boeing announced today that it will assemble the 787-10 Dreamliner exclusively in its factory in North Charleston, South Carolina. It will continue to assemble both 787-8s and 787-9s in Everett, Wash. In North Charleston, however, all three models of the Dreamliner will be built. Design of the 787-10 is underway in Everett, with final assembly of the first 787-10 scheduled to begin in South Carolina in 2017.

The 787-10 is the newest and longest member of the 787 Dreamliner family. It will be 18 feet (5.5 meters) longer than the 787-9. With 10 feet (3 meters) of that increase in the midbody section, the 787-10 midbody is too long to be transported efficiently from North Charleston, where systems integration work is performed, to the Everett facility for final assembly. One of the reasons that Boeing started building aircraft in North Charleston some years ago was that the workers here are nonunion.

The 787 production system includes three production lines: two in Everett (including a temporary surge line) and one in South Carolina. The integrated production system currently operates at a production rate of 10 airplanes per month. As announced last year, the 787 production rate will increase to 12 airplanes per month in 2016 and 14 per month by the end of the decade. The Everett facility will continue to assemble seven airplanes per month, while Boeing South Carolina final assembly will gradually increase from three 787s per month today to five per month in 2016 and seven per month by the end of the decade.
