ANZ performs last Boeing 747 flight

Air New Zealand's will make its last passenger flight with a Boeing 747 this week. The airline operates still only one aircraft, ZK-NBV. It will depart for San Francisco on Wednesday and arrive in Auckland on Friday.

Because of the delays with the delivery of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, ANZ kept the final aircraft longer in service than it originally intended to. The first 787 has been delivered now, a 787-9.

Air New Zealand received its first 747-200 in May 1981 and the airline has had thirteen Jumbo Jets in its fleet: five 747-200s and eight 747-400s. In February 1991 the airline received its first 747-400. Three more 747-200s were leased for only short periods. First commercial flight, to Sydney, was on 11 June 1981.

The 747-work for ANZ has been taken over by the more fuel efficient Boeing 777-300ER.
