IAG has decided to convert eight previously announced Airbus A330-200 options into firm orders for Spain’s flag carrier Iberia. The airline will become a new operator of the A330-200.
The aircraft will be delivered from late 2015 and will be equipped with General Electric CF6 engines. Iberia’s already flies eight A330-300s. The newly ordered aircraft are of the new 242 tonne version.
Iberia operates an all Airbus fleet, including 13 A319s, 12 A320s, 18 A321s, 8 A330-300s, 8 A340-300s and 17 A340-600s.
IAG announced the order on 1 August this year alongside an order for eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft. In total they will replace the 16 A340 family aircraft in Iberia’s long-haul fleet.
The A330 Family has now attracted more than 1,300 orders, with over 1,000 aircraft flying with more than 100 operators worldwide. (Photo: Airbus)
