The LATAM Airlines Group (LAN and TAM), the biggest airline in South America, said it has ordered 27 Airbus A350-900 widebody jetliners. Delivery will take place between December 2015 and 2019. TAM will be the first airline in the Americas to operate the aircraft.
LATAM announced the news during a visit of an Airbus A350 XWB test aircraft to Santiago this week. Five aircraft were already on order since 2005, the other 22 are new orders. The deal is worth around 7 billion US dollar.
The A350 is making a world tour as part of "route proving" tests required for type certification. The aircraft previously visited Johannesburg, Sydney and Auckland among other cities. At the end of the tour on August 13th, the aircraft will have visited 14 airports around the world.
