United Airlines has converted seven Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner orders to the larger 787-10. The airline still had eight 787-8s on order, but now there is just one to go, which will be handed over to United later this year. United will have a total of 12 787-8s then.
The remaining 787-8s were to be delivered in 2017 and 2018, but for the 787-10s United has to wait a little longer; these aircraft will arrive from 2018. The airline has now 26 787-9s and 27 787-10s on order.
It is not the first time that United converts orders to bigger Dreamliners. When, as one of the launch customers, it signed for 20 787-10s at the Paris Air Show in June 2013, it included only 10 really new orders. The other 10 were conversions from earlier 787-8 and 787-9 orders. The airline expects to receive its first 787-9 later this Summer.
